Sites for Teachers

This week I’m holding a mini lesson after school for the elementary teachers in my buildings. The focus is on sites they can use at home this summer with their own children/grandchildren. My hope is they’ll see the value of the sites and find ways to use them in their classroom next year. I’ve put the sites on a wiki and I’ll show them how they can add new sites they might find over the summer that they’d like me to check out. These are all sites that are not blocked by our filter.

I would love it if you’d take a moment to look at the wiki and make suggestions for other sites that I should have them check out.

  1. How about Panwapa – I used it with 1st/2nd, Kerpoof – 1st-6th, History Tours – like Google Lit Trips for History (I didn’t use that this year), Starfall – K-2nd or 3rd, Be CyberSmart which has activities tied to Internet Awareness K-8.

  2. I forgot about Panwapa, that’s something I want to check out this summer. My mind blanked on Kerpoof last night!! Starfall is one they are familiar with. I’ll check out Be CyberSamrt and I think I’ll add Netzsmarts (not sure of spelling) as well.

Thanks so much for the suggestions Ann!

  3. Nedra, the wiki looks great!

Here are some of our favorites:
    http://www.highlightskids.com
    http://www.uptoten.com/kids/uptoten-home.html
http://www.tuxpaint.org (have to download the software, but the kids love it)
    http://snowflakes.lookandfeel.com/

  4. Hi Andrea,
I loved using the snowflake site in the classroom after reading Snowflake Bentley, the kids loved it too. I think I’ll try Tuxpaint next year and I’ll certainly add that to the wiki. I’m not familiar with the other two sites. I’ll check those out today. Thanks so much for the suggestions!
