Opening Day Presentation
Posted on September 3, 2008 by Nedra Isenberg
Tomorrow is the first day of school for students and being in the lab it means it’s the first of 6 first days for me! Last year I know I was very inconsistent in what I told each class about rules/procedures and expectations for the coming year. So now as I begin year two I’m starting out with a presentation. I promise I won’t do Death by Powerpoint with my youngsters! I used a program called Smilebox. They are giving their premium service to teachers for free. I have some reference notes ready so hopefully I’ll cover the same material with each of my 36 classes.

Those are some very colorful pages. How did the six first days go? Did you like how you were able to set the tone this year? It is hard to repeat the same thing so many times, but it is worth it over the long course of the year!
Very cool. I will certainly check out Smilebox. Thanks for another great tool. Have a great year.
That’s awesome. I’d be interested to know what feedback you received from students and wish you a terrific year.
Thanks for the comments! The Smilebox presentation was a big hit. I had it ready to go when the kids walked in and they were wowed to see their class up on the screen. I made two different versions so the kids saw their own lab. They were attentive and now I know every class has been told where to go for a fire drill. The one thing I forgot to include was bathroom procedures. Some of the kids asked if it was a video. That got me to thinking that I’ll want to change things up for next year so a video is a possibility for next September.
