Giving Thanks
Before this Thanksgiving ends in 35 minutes I feel a need to write a quick post. In these times that are difficult for so many around the country and world I have so much to be thankful for. At the top of my list is my husband and children whom I love with all my heart. Then there’s my mom and siblings, distance separates us but we have a loving and supportive network. When I count my blessings I don’t think I take my job into account often enough. I am so lucky to have a job that I love and one that is secure. A major event happened this year in that we paid off our house. When I was younger I suffered from what I call “house envy.” It seemed our friends and relatives houses were always bigger, newer and better than our old tiny ranch. Now that are kids are growing up our tiny house will soon be the right size and best of all it’s all ours. Our health is another blessing. My husband was diagnosed with cancer almost 13 years ago. Every time it starts to rear its ugly head the doctors are able to stomp it back out. So I am not only thankful for his continued good health but the great group of doctors that care for him as well. Going along with that theme is my thankfulness for our great health coverage. I am also thankful for my friends both in real life and online. It’s the online friends from around the world that make me more aware of how I take all of my good fortune for granted. This post could go on and on because of all that good fortune but I think you get the picture. Oh, I forgot to mention my dog, and our vacations and the piano….

When one starts counting blessings like this, one realizes that on a scale of balance, the things for which to be thankful for far outweighs the things about which we grumble. I can take your list and nearly make it mine (will just substitute “cat” for “dog” at the end) and then go on and on and on – and so can many people. We do have such a lot to be thankful for. May we continue to show gratitude for life and what it gives us, during the next 364 days. Thank you very much for a reminder that we should have a “thank you” list.
Hi Nedra-
Thank you for sharing so much of yourself. I feel blessed to be able to simply read it.

Happy day after Thanksgiving. I am thankful to have met you online over the last year. I think the more we say thanks the more we realize how much we have. I try to say it many times in the course of everyday whether out loud or in the quiet of my heart. Here’s to a wonderful December.
Ann, I’m glad to have met you as well and I too will try to say thank you more often.
Skip, thanks for stopping by. I enjoy your Plurks every day. I appreciate all the links that you share and your updates on the weather and biking.
Kobus, you are the person I had in mind when I mentioned friends from around the world that make me aware of my good fortune. I am thankful for your gentle reminders and your thoughtful Plurks.
