I'll be at NECC so hope we catch up. My goals are to take this opportunity to meet people who I've networked with online f2f. This will probably be my one and only visit to NECC due to costs involved in attending so this may be the only opportunity I get to meet many of the people I network with online.

In terms of conference planning I'm approaching it the same way I approach all other conferences. I have absolutely no plan and hopefully others will organise me so I know what I'm doing.

I was happy to find your name on one of my student's images the other day. I found out when I was helping my fourth grader with her bibliography. I added some images last month. They are taking a long time to put them on the website, but I hope to see them soon.

It is becoming my first stop with students because I trust the quality and appropriateness for my students.

I'd just concur that Pics4Learning is great. I usually start my classroom image search there because it's well organized and kid-safe. If they don't have waht I"m looking for then I move on to one of the other options like morguefile.

Nina, Thanks for the suggestion on learning names. I always greeted my students when I taught in the traditional classroom but haven't tried it in the lab. I'll have to give that a try. I'm glad you found this blog and the ning. It's amazing how one conference can change how and what you teach! I had a similar experience at our NY tech conference the last school year. Please share your projects on the ning. I'd love to hear about them.

Nedra,
I too teach technology to over 300 3rd through 5th graders. I can honestly say I know ALL of them by name by now. Several years ago our district had a retreat where we were encouraged to shake hands with our students and greet them by name. I promised myself I would commit to doing that this year. It has been tremendously helpful to getting to know the students. Sometimes I have memory lapses, but the students always forgive me. I am so grateful to have found your blog. This is my fourth year to teach technology, but my first year to attend the Texas Computer Education Association (TCEA) Conference. I returned from the conference with a new mission...to allow the students to learn technology by using technology in a project. Before I was using an internet based curriculum that I managed and facilitated.

Here are the responses I received on Plurk:

DianeA says not my personal experience - but 2 teachers in my wing have had trouble editing with movie maker - said it's time consuming and tricky

sharon_elin says MM isn't as flexible as premium movie editors like Premiere, but for a free program it's OK for student work. I'm curious to know more about Smilebox

clong says Oh, I wish you hadn't introduced me to Smilebox. I just signed up for the 14 day free trial and will probably join after the trial runs out. I introduced teachers on my campus to Photo Story 3, and they LOVE it compared to Movie Maker.

nhill,
Thanks for your input. What grade level is doing the Stop Motion video project? If you post them online be sure to share the link. I'd love to see them. Nedra

Nedra,
Hi! I was interested in your comparison when I saw your post link from plurk. I personally use Window Movie Maker way more than either Photostory or Smilebox. I just wanted to add that yes Music can be added in Windows Movie Maker although I think that it cannot be on top of or at the same time you have your voice recorded. I have my students record their voices and then adjust the timeline accordingly if necessary when finished to fix any timing issues. Right now my students are working on Stop motion video projects using Windows Movie Maker as well. This is the first time we have done these and I'm curious to see how they turn out. Thanks for the information.
